BASF’s polyurethane experts had the opportunity to present the latest innovations from the German chemical giant at SIMAC 2016. Proposals that provide lighter, softer, more flexible solutions and products that have been purposely studied for the footwear sector.
The first example is Elastopan® Light Sports, designed to create a highly responsive midsole. Specifically developed for the sports world, this polyether-based PU system stands out for its extreme lightness, excellent cushioning and responsiveness, as well as elevated resistance to hydrolysis. The material, which is already used by Puma for its Ignite model, is perfect for use with direct injection technology.
Whereas, Infinergy®, has been designed for enhanced comfort in safety shoes. The world’s first expanded thermoplastic polyurethane (E-TPU) is used in the safety sector, thanks to its special closed-cell composition, low density elastic particle foam, high elasticity, high resistance to abrasion and tensile strength. There were also excellent results from the extreme temperature durability tests (from -20° to +40°), as well as resistance to chemical agents. All excellent qualities, with the addition of another truly outstanding characteristic: high resilience even after intense and continual use.
This last feature is what makes this the perfect and ideal material for the midsoles of safety shoes.
