_dsc2141Sustainability is a very relevant issue that involves the entire footwear industry, and will be even more so in the future. For this reason, CEC – European Federation of Footwear Industry – wanted to meet tomorrow’s young entrepreneurs during the Entrepreneurship School organised by ThinkYoung.

This allowed students to get a better understanding of the reality of the footwear market and what the industry is doing to move towards sustainability. The Pikolinos Vice President Rosana Perán explained in detail to the young students the importance of the CO2Shoe project and the new tool for calculating the carbon footprint of a shoe. The initiative – led by the Spanish research centre INESCOP, supported by CEC and developed within the European LIFE+ project – is helping European footwear manufacturers to calculate the level of pollution generated by the different production processes and to identify the critical points on which to work on in order to provide consumers with more environmentally friendly products.
