Schmid: when designer labels set their sights on the sports worldThe world of fashion opens up to the athleisure style and Schmid replies with a range of technical products that combine style and performance.

May 18, 2018

More than 70 years of experience in the sector of textiles and materials for footwear and leather goods have qualified Schmid to be the privileged partner to prêt-à-porter labels and Italian and international Haute Couture brands, with an offering of materials characterised by high fashion content and state-of-the-art innovation.

In recent years, the global success of the athleisure style and the opening up of designer labels to the world of sports, – declares Silvio La Cava, sales manager for the company – has pushed us to develop a range of more technical and sportier items. Stimulated by the positive feedback of the market, over time this proposal has developed to include nylon fabrics, mesh, and stretch materials.

The first items to be developed by Schmid for the world of sports were nylon fabrics, in line with the company’s fashion-oriented outlook, but characterised by a high level of technical performance. Among them is Road, a refractive polyurethane nylon with the application of micro glass beads that convey an iridescent effect to the material, while the extraordinary technical features include high tenacity and fire-resistant treatment, as well as snag-free and waterproof versions.
There are then Afyon, a highly resistant nylon fabric, and Nylon Taffetas, a nylon with a “veil-like” effect for an extremely lightweight fabric.

Among its meshes, Schmid has designed some products specifically suited to the world of sports footwear: Sahara, Sonora and Kalahari. All are made from Raschel machine with a minimum thickness and are characterised by a honeycomb design or by vintage perfing as a throwback to the 70’s and 80’s.

Finally, among the stretch products for the sports world is Scuba: made from dual layer MTP with a high thickness, it is characterised by a cutting-edge neoprene effect that qualifies it as the preferred material for the trendiest sock sneakers.

For all these products, the colour cards range from a minimum of 7 to a maximum of 13 variations. Moreover, all these products are fruit of the brand’s high-profile stylistic research and ability to skilfully interpret the demands of the market, while also offering technical consulting services for the development of products.

For these reasons, today, Schmid is partner to a number of leading designer labels when it comes to realizing elegant productions or undertaking specific projects dedicated to the sports world. An example? The Archlight by L.V. project, which saw this Lombardy-based company praised by the historic French maison for its contribution to the development of an extremely complex technical project, which was of great media impact and a huge success commercially speaking.
