SmartPixels: Augmented reality and footwearNowadays, we talk a lot about augmented reality, above all with reference to smartphones. The same concept can be applied to the footwear sector
SmartPixels, the French startup that at the end of 2016 saw the début of its innovative technology in the Nike Store on the Champs-Élysées, Paris, thought about it.
SmartPixels is an extremely precise augmented reality system that works thanks to the 3D mapping of objects, a projector and an app connected to the system.
The operation is simple: you put the shoe under the projector. The system recognises the model and applies colours and textures chosen by the customer to it through the application interface.
The system, which was actually born to facilitate and optimise the prototyping stage, is well-suited to in-store communication solutions, representing a great solution to facilitate the product customisation or the customers’ interaction with the product. With just one “neutral” product you can show the development of an entire collection and, at the same time, explain its characteristics.
There are advantages for production too: the footwear company can customise and locate the user experience via software, easily managing the various stores around the world; it can receive a real-time feedback of the interaction with customers and plan production and stock.
