In the face of the continuous and irreversible process of climate change, in the face of images of devastating fires in many parts of the world, and in front of the famous plastic islands in the oceans, is why with increasingly greater force the public opinion worldwide requests Governments and businesses a change of gear. Since the relationship between man and nature is compromised, it is necessary that all do their part to start a paradigm change.
Indeed, for many companies, interpreting a new development model, in an already difficult and expensive world market, may seem very complicated. Unfortunately, many companies came out of the Great Crisis with broken bones, and this argument of sustainability is often seen as a cost increase rather than an growth opportunity. It has never actually been like that and it never will be: the new development model of the whole world revolves around sustainability, and it is not possible to be left behind: it is in all respects an anchor to hold on to save what can be saved of a collapsing planet, and at the same time the engine for happy and prosperous growth.
Davos, a company located in the Italian Northeast, like other companies in the same area, has a thrifty tradition behind it and is very attentive to respect for environmental constraints, always making very careful use of the resources available. At Davos, environmental considerations means above all Technology, a fundamental criterion in the construction of the new factory. Since 2007, the production and management unit of Cavaso del Tomba has been inserted in perfect harmony in a first-rate natural-environmental context, and Davos has become an active participant and partner in environmental and landscape protection. An example of highly innovative production systems is provided by the innovations in the Lastre-Thunit sector, especially considering the low environmental impact: the new water-based (non-solvent-based) painting system has been operating for almost 15 years, equipped with computerised dosages and recirculation of cooling water.

Investments of Davos are obviously not only concerning Technology, but also Human Resources, the intelligence of people, as a result of general strategic lines desired and pursued by the Management.
All this is fundamental both for the rapid adaptation to the continuous changes of the market and, above all, for being able to make continuous quality improvements and fashion proposals in the products. Each item is tested, both from a physical and mechanical point of view, and with regards to compliance with international regulations on harmful substances. In this respect, it is important to underline how – within the renewal process implemented by Davos in the last decade, i.e. the creation of Eco-Friendly Sheets – the products are made with the aim of safeguarding the environment by limiting or eliminating harmful factors and harmful consequences for the environment. Eco-compatibility is also implemented with compounds obtained only through substances that are free from any harmful and non-hazardous substances, according to the restrictive laws in force on the subject (Reach, California Convention, CADS).
Finally, it is important to remember that each DAVOS product is potentially recyclable and reusable and, since it does not have animal components, it is suitable for the production of soles for the vegan footwear niche. Although it is almost impossible for Davos to recover all the production cuttings of sheets sold, as well as soles (made in thunit) applied to used and almost worn out shoes, Davos follows the recycling path by presenting the new MIRAGE GREEN: a recycling line characterised by a recycling percentage of around 50%, obtained thanks to a careful organisation of waste collection generated by various internal production phases. Different types of, both matt and super-glossy (on the latter you will notice some dots, which, given the recycling topic, certainly become a plus), paint can be applied on this GREEN base.
MIRAGE GREEN guarantees the same high quality standards as any Davos sole, keeping the physical-mechanical characteristics unchanged and IPAH values unchanged, which are decisive when complying with the Reach, Cads and California Convention parameters.
Furthermore, considering also the other, technical and sports, production areas concerning Free Climbing, Trekking Bands, Grips and Printed soles, Davos is already presenting GREEN products made with the recycling of production waste. In this regard, the company organises a circular collection chain, in synergy with its customers, for the recovery and reuse of their processing waste. A process still in the experimental phase, and not without its difficulties since it requires a qualitative leap in the management of processing waste in line with the design of the new model of global sustainable development.
The fact that the Fashion System industry is, after the oil industry, among the most polluting in the world is the basic awareness from which Davos starts for its path towards sustainability. It is therefore a challenge that requires concrete answers in terms of recycling and reuse of materials.
But when can a shoe be considered truly sustainable? To get a comprehensive response, one must necessarily start from the materials used. In fact, shoes are not only made of leather and, therefore, it becomes essential that all manufacturers of materials, components and accessories involved in a shoe follow the same path. Until yesterday it was said: “if we recovered all the thunit soles of used shoes, it would be possible to re-insert them in the production cycle”. Today, we can safely say that the Davos sole does not affect, but rather guarantee and contribute to a correct footwear recyclability.
Sustainability is a plus that is necessarily associated with excellence. Davos therefore becomes synonymous with sustainability and a guarantee of excellence and value, and is absolutely ready to continue improving collaboration with the brands that actually control the market thus promoting a virtuous circle to the advantage of the whole system.

An essential condition of this process is the growth of a high awareness in the choices related to environmental issues. The sensitivity shown by international demand, especially by young people, requires an explicit attitude in terms of researching eco-compatible materials, of transformation processes attentive to environmental constraints, of sustainable design criteria up to the development of innovative business models. And these aspects are becoming a prerequisite for properly presenting oneself to the market.
Davos, therefore, presents with simplicity and extreme clarity the environmental specificity of its offer, aiming to go beyond the logic of compliance, understood as simple adherence to standards set by third parties. Davos proves to be Eco-Friendly by opening its doors and clearly revealing the various production cycles, giving concrete proof that Thunit stems out from Thunit.
Recyclability and eco-sustainability concepts are absolutely intrinsic to the Davos company. These are real, effective, not just theoretical concepts. Davos is an integral part of the New economic-productive system which it believes can feed itself, and is therefore, by definition, linked to the true concept of Circular Economy.
Sustainability is at this point a decisive factor. Consumers are literally on the hunt for sustainable businesses. That is, attentive to environmental problems and at the same time responsible towards the territory and the community in which they operate. All elements that, today, are not “something more”, but an integral part of the business. Who moves in this direction goes forward. Who remains still is lost.
Davos undoubtedly moves in the right direction. And it goes forward.
