Already in 1994, when the sustainability theme was still on the radar of very few brands, Vibram launched Vibram Ecostep, the first pioneering eco-compound made of over 30% recycled rubber derived from production waste. A real innovation intended for the final consumer linked to sustainability issues, without wanting to give up on grip and durability performance of Vibram soles.
Since then, research has never stopped and many other paths have been followed. Some were later abandoned, but others are very promising. Like the Vibram N-OIL compound, the innovative solution designed to offer a green alternative in the footwear world. Over 90% of rubber is made from natural materials, without sacrificing the standards that distinguish the Vibram brand in terms of quality, grip and performance. Ideal for urban and light-outdoor use, it has an exclusive and original colour and is made with 100% natural pigments, obtained from natural sources or with drying techniques. The entire process is carried out without the use of solvents or chemicals. The impact in terms of sustainability is therefore important and positive.
Finally, to invite the public not to throw away their products and to give them new life, Vibram launched the “Repair If You Care” campaign, focused on the concept of reuse and repair as a sustainable approach. The main goal of the company is to raise awareness among final consumers not to throw away their shoes, but to reuse and personalise them, highlighting that repairing things is a precious opportunity to reduce waste and a conscious choice linked to sustainability. An invitation to increase the life span of a product to reduce its environmental impact, stressing how even the smallest contribution of each of us can make a difference.
