“PrimaLoft® NEXT was created to meet the demands of designers and consumers striving for individuality within a sea of sameness,” said Mike Joyce, president and CEO of PrimaLoft. “It is a hybrid solution for designing garments that deliver lightweight warmth and breathability, thus stimulating designers to experiment and break away from the standard look of insulated apparel.” In fact, the increased resistance to fibre migration enables greater flexibility to pair with open-structure fabrics, which provides unique colour opportunities. In addition to pairing with shell and liner fabrics, next-to-skin and stand-alone applications are also possible.
One of the first to adopt this innovation is the German outdoor brand Schöffel, with the first products to go on sale in summer 2020. Günther Herrmann, Head of Product, Marketing and Sales at Schöffel Sportbekleidung GmbH, said that “we are always looking for functional innovations that meet our high standards of quality. The features of PrimaLoft® NEXT convinced us immediately and we are pleased to introduce this novelty to the market.” The PrimaLoft® Evolve Series leverages biomimicry to engineer a unique series of products that emulate biological processes. Mimicking the properties found in animal fur, the products in this series are constructed with fibres of different lengths and thicknesses to create natural variables in the material. This produces structures that maximise airflow when on the move and air entrapment when at rest, for optimal thermal performance. The result is a thermoregulating system that does not need layering.
Giving priority to reducing environmental impact, the PrimaLoft® NEXT Evolve series uses 58-71% of post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, while providing high levels of performance. The series is also bluesign® and Oeko-Tex® certified. Comprised of 100% polyester, it can be recycled for use in a circular economy.
